Grand Prix du Vin suisse 2019 : Geneva takes the crown for Sweet Wines and Gamaret

Results of the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse wine competition were revealed on Thursday 24th October at the Swiss Wine Gala evening held at the Kongress Kursaal in Berne in front of an audience of 500 guests from the world of wine and vineyards.

Our congratulations go to the Cave de la Côte at Tolochenaz, awarded the supreme honour of Cave Suisse de l’Année 2019 (Swiss Winery of the Year).

Geneva’s contingent obtained outstanding results too, with Marc Ramu from the Domaine du Clos des Pins at Dardagny securing top prize in the Gamaret category, while Mathurin Ramu from the Domaine de Chafalet was awarded first prize in the Sweet Wines section, just pipping the Vignoble de la République et Canton de Genève.

The Domaine de Chafalet had more than one prize to celebrate: it was also awarded the first-ever special “Découverte” (Discovery) prize dedicated to Elisabeth Pasquier.

Three cheers as well for all nominees from Geneva on the night – the Domaine de Champvigny, the Domaine de la Vigne Blanche, the Domaine des Charmes and Villard & Fils.

To close, we would highlight the fact that our canton’s wineries won 21 gold medals and 27 silver medals in this nationwide competition, an outstanding result showcasing the diversity and quality of wines produced in Geneva, competing with 3,254 wines entered.

The full list of winners can be found on the vinea.ch website.
